Create more atmosphere in your garden with a Corten steel letterbox. Corten steel letterboxes have a natural appearance because the mailboxes are made of Corten. A Corten steel letterbox made from Corten steel is alloy steel that has corrosion-resistant properties due to the addition of copper, chromium and nickel. Its warm rust-brown color adds atmosphere to your garden.
What is corten steel?
Corten steel is alloy steel that has corrosion-resistant properties through the use of copper, chromium and nickel. This alloy, a dense barrier layer of adhering sulphates and phosphates, protects the steel so that no further corrosion occurs. When exposed to the weather, the material takes on a life of its own. The colors change and create new images.
The steel gets a rust-like oxidation layer. It provides protection against further rusting. The final color depends on the temperature, humidity and the exact position of the product (vertical or horizontal).
The formation of the final barrier layer takes about a year, depending on the climate. This can be accelerated by up to 2 weeks with a rust accelerator. When a Corten steel mailbox is completely rusted, it is a good idea to apply a rust fixer. This will ensure that it no longer releases rust or rust water. It is important that the product is completely rusted before application.
Another property of a letterbox made of Corten steel is that it is super strong. Corten steel is one of the strongest steels available.
A Geroba letterbox or Adezz letterbox made of Corten steel has a large number of advantages:
- -Combination of strength and durability
- -Corten steel fits perfectly in both modern and classic gardens
- - Ecological, because fully recyclable
- - UV and Frost resistant
-
- Warm and natural look
How to install a Corten steel letterbox
The installation always depends on the design of the Corten steel mailbox. For each Corten letterbox we briefly explain how it should be installed. However, there are a few basic points you should keep in mind:
1. Provide a flat, sturdy (vibrated) surface. If this is not done carefully, stresses may arise in the product which could result in damage to the product.
2. Drill holes in the position of the slotted holes of the base plate. The round holes are for drainage and may not be used as mounting holes!
3. We always recommend using a concrete plinth or heavy tile to anchor the letterbox.
A mailbox with a rust color?
Why would you choose a mailbox that rusts? That's very simple: the rust color gives a certain warmth to a house. Nowadays it is increasingly used because of this warmth and unique appearance.
The maintenance of a Corten steel letterbox
The mailbox with rust color is always delivered unrusted and gets its beautiful rust color/layer when it is outside. This process takes approximately 6 to 12 months. This process can be accelerated to 2 to 3 weeks by using the rust accelerator.
After it has completely rusted, we always recommend applying a rust fixer. This ensures that the rust process stops and no rust water will come off the rusted mailbox.
