In general, mailboxes should be placed as close as possible to the public road. So if your home is too far from the street, you should opt for a freestanding mailbox. The mailbox must be easily accessible from the street. But a standing mailbox may not be more than 10 meters from the street. The mailbox must of course be numbered with your house number and a postman may not move more than 2.5 meters from the road to deliver the mail.
The height of a letterbox and its dimensions also play a role. First of all, a letterbox must have a spacious letter opening suitable for large letters. The letterbox should preferably be placed at a height of 1.1 meters. This is the height of the top of the mailbox.
