Maintenance: The maintenance of this water block is simple. Once the water block has completely rusted, you can apply a layer of varnish over it. Optionally, you can change the water once a year, but this is not necessary. You can do this by first turning off the pump. You can then remove the top plate, after which you can easily clean it.

Rust Process and Maintenance
Corten steel is known for its unique rust process, which creates a protective rust layer as soon as the material is exposed to the outside air. The planter is delivered unrusted and develops its characteristic rust color in 6 to 12 months. This process can be accelerated to 2 to 3 weeks with a rust accelerator, available at the bottom of this page for recommended combinations. To prevent further rust deposits, we recommend applying a rust fixer after completing the rust process, also available from us.
Planting advice
For optimal planting in Corten steel planters, we recommend using pebbles instead of hydro granules. Fill the container with a layer of pebbles about 10 cm high and cover it with a moisture-permeable anti-root cloth. Make sure that the cloth is raised at least 10 cm at the edges. Then cover the cloth with an airy soil mixture that is tailored to the planting. Please note: do not tamp the soil to prevent damage to the container.

What to look for when purchasing your new planter
Every outdoor flower box has certain characteristics, some rust, some are super light, some are indestructible. But what should you pay attention to when buying your new planters? This mainly depends on what you like. For example, certain people like aluminum planters or corten steel planters, but there are also people who absolutely do not want this. However, it is important to know that every planter is different. For example, with an aluminum and Corten steel planter, it is very important that the water can drain properly. The planters are therefore equipped with drainage holes as standard. This is not only important because it prevents water from getting out, but also because this is essential for a corten steel container. You should also know that a Corten steel planter releases rust water before it is coated with a layer of varnish. For this reason, if the planter is placed on pebbles or tiles, it is always best to temporarily place a piece of cardboard or blanket underneath. Once it is completely rusted, you can apply a coat of varnish and remove the cardboard or blanket. When placing on grass, the piece of cardboard or cloth is not necessary.
The Adezz polyester planters do not have standard drainage holes. This is especially useful if the planter is placed on a terrace where water is not allowed to flow underneath. If you prefer drainage holes in your planters, you can easily install this yourself. You do this by using a drill with a drill of +/- 8 mm. It is best to drill this hole in the center of the planter. For elongated containers it is certainly a must to drill 2 holes. However, a polyester flower box from Adezz is also ideal for indoor use. With the polyester planters you can easily choose the 100% waterproof option. The delivery time is +/- 4 weeks, but then you will have a planter that you will enjoy for the next 10 years.
