A self-produced foundation can specifically meet the wishes and existing situation. It is important to carefully read through the 'most frequently asked questions about foundations' in advance. This explains the function and application of a foundation.
Foundation dimensionsIt is important to use the correct dimensions for the foundation to be installed. Each manual contains the foundation dimensions in millimeters for each type of conservatory. This often concerns the external dimensions of the foundation that must be adhered to exactly. Because the frame of the conservatory 'falls' over the foundation edge, there is very little margin for this. Furthermore, a foundation must be placed perpendicular and level. Squareness can be checked by taking the diagonal measurements, which must be equal.
Height of the foundationThe height of the foundation is often also the height of the threshold. A threshold must be passed during every movement in and out of the conservatory, so do not make it too high. A standard foundation has a height of up to 12 cm. For conservatories with a threshold-free door, there must be a recess for the door.
Foundation as a wall
A wall can be a very good foundation edge, but it must be realized that the height of the conservatory increases with the height of the wall. A wall with a height of 60 cm immediately means that both the gutter and ridge height of the conservatory increase by the same 60 cm. This is not possible for every model of garden conservatory, so please get good advice in advance.
A foundation is often offered as an option. There are 2 different types of foundations, namely a steel foundation and an aluminum foundation.
Steel foundation
The most common is the steel foundation. The foundation edge consists of a C-profile and has a height of 12 cm. The steel foundation is attached to the greenhouse frame with clips, bolts and nuts. In the case of a wooden (conservatory) frame, screws are supplied.
Steel corner lines
Corner lines are supplied with the foundation. These can be used in their entirety when placed in the ground, possibly additionally secured in (fast) concrete. The corner rails can be shortened or mounted upside down when placed on a paved surface, for example the terrace.
Aluminium foundation
Less used, but a very solid construction. The aluminum foundations almost always have a box shape and are integrated into the frame. In this way the connection between frame and foundation is optimal.
Coating color
As a rule, a foundation can always be supplied in the color of the greenhouse frame. If the greenhouse is not coated, the foundation is delivered in a blank version. The bare steel foundation is galvanized and therefore protected against rust. It is possible to create a contrast with the foundation: combine a clear foundation with a coated greenhouse frame.
